Horrible Television

In Britian young children are being frightened by a new commercial for Marmite, a “dark brown-colored savory spread“. This has caused many of them to be too frightened to watch television. Childrens Advocacy groups have complained, getting the commercials banned from all childrens programming. One show in particular, Britian’s “Pop Idol” caused the most controversy as it has many young viewers.

First of all, the british children deserve to be scared because they gave us four drugged out weirdos who have televisions in their stomaches and say uh-oh(the Teletubbies, not the Beatles). Second, who says children being too scared to watch t.v. is a bad thing, especially if they are watching “Pop Idol”. Third “dark brown-colored savory spread” is scary enough.

Thief Steals Poop From Woman Walking Dog

I have nothing to say that could make that any better. I give up. I no longer need a blog because now another person is reporting the things I care about most, in a more consistent way. Read it here

Colorful Rhinoceros Cherry Dessert

I am in currently in the process of getting ready to make a couple films with a friend next week, which at this point means looking for music. I really have been wanting to use some sort of indie/pop/electronica stuff for my next movie so I spent the day searching. Found a couple things I liked, including Tycho (sort of ambient artsy feel, really good though). It wasnt until later in the day when I found the jackpot I was really looking for…Japanese pop rock. One group I especially like is Snowball. They say they are influenced by the beatles and beach boys and just released a new cd. I would link to the site, but you cant read it. Actually thats the whole reason I’m posting this. I translated the page dedicated to their new cd and this was the description of their new album:

One spoon inserting the mad rhinoceros in the colorful pop music, when 33 times you stir, it to be possible, rising. As for present dessert lemon source per seat snowball of wild cherry.

I dont know what it means, but whatever it is…I like it.

Check back this next week, I hope to have some sort of audio so you can hear one of their songs.

Bad Jesus Picture

This week’s bad Jesus picture comes from Trevor Debenning.

Bush is not only a Jesus fan, but he also is a Lord of the Rings fan.

Looks like we have a lot in common. I bet if I had the chance to meet him, that he would like me, we would become friends and then I could hang out at the white house.

Commentary: I love it when people are creative. The person who made the above photo obviously dislikes Bush, but unlike many other Bush haters I actually considered his position. Activism done creatively, with some sense of tact, is easy for people to take and may even win over other followers, but sadly this isn’t the nature of american activisim. It’s a culture of “we hate you, and we want you to hate us”. These sort of radicals only attract other radicals. This may explain Bush’s win in november. He clearly had a lot of shortcomings as a president, but the people who flocked to him, were running away from extremists (on both sides).

A simple photoshop created image carries the same message as “Bush is a communist, neo-fascist, nazi, homophobic, Jesus loving, liar who has oil running in his vains and poops on little helpless children for fun”, but it says it in good humor. Some might argue this is watering down the message but its not. I myself am very passionate about certain issues (the watching of television, for one) and I believe at times it is necessary to seperate oneself from the crowd, even though it may offend people, but when I know my actions will push someone farther from the re-thinking of an idea/issue, I try to take a path which allows them to make the same discovery I have. So next time your gonna change the world try to bring a couple people with you, it just might help. There is a reason that optimism, positivism and activism all end in the same three letters.

Bad Jesus Picture of the Week

I am going to try to start a new thing here at the Beach Blog. I learned from my History of Television class that you must get viewers to come back every week in order to make any money. Well I cant really show sex and violence and so instead I’ve opted to post one picture a week of Jesus that is absolutely terrible. This is not mocking Jesus as I believe the pictures themselves inadvertently mock Jesus. So here is number one:

Headphones

Pedro the Lion’s side project Headphones has now got a website up. The group includes Dave Bazan, T.W. Walsh and Frank Lenz of Starflyer 59. The album consists of Bazaan singing, with live drums and synthesizers. Ive listened to the first couple tracks and it sounds pretty nice. You can hear it yourself and even download the track Pink and Brown at purevolume.com.

Me and Dave have a long family history. He went to my grandfathers church, then played music with my cousin and went to college with my brother. If you reading this Dave lets meet up for lunch for old times sake.
