Bias is a curious thing. Everyone has some sort of bias. You blame someone else’s bias on their ignorance or stupidity, but your own is of course correct and defendable. Most of the time it simply boils down to a matter of opinion. I like this car or I dont like this car. Sometimes though bias can be based in truth. The reason why I am bringing this up? I have always had a general dislike for rap. There have been times I’ve listened to it. I went through this “hang with the gangstas” stage my freshman year in high school and I listened to some puff daddy songs, so I could keep up. Besides then I pretty much hate it. Most rap artists, in my opinion (bias) have no musical talent, it’s simply recycled beats and melodies. Also the content of most of the music in no way connects to me. I dont wanna slap hoes or get a platinum grill, I’ve never been shot and it’s not all about the booty. Many parts of rap culture have to do with certain racial stereotypes and I’m not going to get into that. Am I saying ALL rap music is no good? No, that would be unfounded bias. Disliking it simply to dislike it. I say, “Mostly All rap is utterly worthless and detrimental to your intelligence.” See thats much more easy to swallow. To try and not only pick on rap, there is defintely more styles of music out there that are based on something negative and therefore the whole culture and music of the genre have no positive contribution. The reason I’ve come to this conclusion is, I heard a rap song. This song being a “classic” in most everyones terms, has to be one of the most offensive things I’ve heard and at the same time, I’m sure many would say its tame. A lot of people I know could probably sing it. Thats why I’m using it as an example to show how stupid this music is. It’s no different then the “lets sit around and cut ourselves”, “lets get high” or “I just wanna kill someone” types of music. I’d love to hear puddle of mud scream a song about something even slightly positive like “I dont hate everyone today, Im just nuetral (obviously I’m not a song writer).” I believe these types of music are simply expressing the darkness in ourselves. I’m not saying pretend it’s not there and hide it. I’m saying examine yourself and show that your more intelligent than a hyena and have some self-control. The animal desire to conquer is in everyone, just becuase you think it or feel it doesn’t mean you need to express it. You need to deal with it and rise above it. Well I’m totally just off on a tangent now.
Read the lyrics to this very popular and well played song and be totally offended. Then your bias against rap music can be confirmed. WARNING! This is pretty explicit.
If you still like rap after this, get a platinum grill.
