Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant are not widely popular in America.  They are the creators of the original show “The Office” on BBC.  They then licensed the show for an American version.  Before that they were radio DJ’s.  They simply filmed a cheap pilot in an office building and BBC bought the show.  It was really filmed different and I enjoyed it because it didn’t have the laugh tracks and quick editing of American comedies, which incidentally are not that funny.  Their system for what is acceptable on TV is very different though.  I’ve made this point before so I won’t take the time to go in depth.  We have shows about child rape and brutal serial murder, they make sexual jokes (I’m not taking one over the other, Im just stating the difference).

Ricky Gervais new show is called Extras.  He and his counterpart, Maggie, are extras on movies trying to make it big.  Season 2 is now on tv, I believe.  The best part of the show is celebrities who play themselves. The following clip is from an episode starring David Bowie.  A little background: I think Ricky’s character got his idea bought but he dissapointed because people hate his show and so he goes to talk to David Bowie.
