Congratulations

U.S. Men’s Water Polo win silver.

While this might sound like a dissapointment, they were ranked 9th in the world coming into the tournament.  Congrats to Rick Merlo.  Maybe it was the video (which looked suprising like the Visa “Go World” commercials though Curt’s came first.)

I told you so

After seeing slews of celebrity pregnancies and the film Juno, I predicted this would happen. So now I can accuse my little bro of just trying to be like Brad and whomever he’s having babies with right now.

Belonging

Hopefully, I soon will be the proud owner of a:

a hirsute appendage of the upper lip with graspable extremities

Then I can join the club.

The Sharing of Ourselves

From my latest pick-up from the library:

He has made the sharing of ourselves the law of our own being, so that it is in loving others that we best love ourselves. In disinterested activity we best fulfill our own capacities to act and be.

Yet there can never be happiness in complusion.  It is not enough for love to be shared: it must be shared freely.

Hamlet is _________

Hamlet Facebook News Feed Edition:

Hamlet wonders if he should continue to exist. Or not.

Hamlet thinks Ophelia might be happier in a convent.

Ophelia removed “moody princes” from her interests.

Hamlet posted an event: A Play That’s Totally Fictional and In No Way About My Family

The king commented on Hamlet’s play: “What is wrong with you?”

Polonius thinks this curtain looks like a good thing to hide behind.

Polonius is no longer online.

What Bush and Batman Have in Common

I don’t necessarily agree with the article, but it’s an interesting read.

I didn’t walk away form the movie believing it was a bastion of conservative and moral principles. However, I did find myself thinking about the lack of liberalism expressed in the film.  I guess I’m so used to hearing President Bush quotes and 9/11/War on Terror references in every movie I see now (including this one, unfortunately), that I was slightly taken back that Batman wasn’t this anti-establishment hero that never had to kill* and Joker wasn’t the leader of a religious organization looking to take away your abortion rights.

I think art raises great questions, it’s not always the best place to seek answers.

What do you guys think?

China 08

I haven’t been looking forward to the Olympics at all this year. Which is surprising since last summer Olympics I bought premium cable and a DVR just to watch them. Why? Well for one I’m busy but I’ve also had some moral issues with how China is “polishing a turd” in regards to their human rights policies, pollution and other negative aspects of their country. What am I talking about?

Google China Olympics and over the half the entries are negative.

But there is a ray of hope in that.  Curt Merlo’s brother Rick is on the olympic water polo team (he and Curt both played at UCI).  The above video was done by Curt to celebrate his brothers accomplishments.  Besides getting me excited about the Olympics, it also has me a little scared.  Scared that maybe Curt is just too talented.
