So my brief stint of trying every blog software out there and also completely jacking up my theme is over. I learned an important lesson. It’s easily summed up in oh so simple words of one of our founding fathers:
Don’t go chasing waterfalls, just stick to the rivers and the lakes that you’re used to
So now we have (hopefully) a readable design and good content. Now all we need is readers.
One a sidenote: I will continue to keep up my tumblr blog and use it from time to time. My tumblr blog imports all my posts from wordpress (minus the comments) so you wont miss anything here is you only check there. I am going to try and keep this guy updated and we’ll see if we can keep the discussion going.
Did you cheer when Han Solo flew in helping Luke Skywalker and the Rebel Forces blow up the Death Star? I bet you also cheer when you see babies fall. Your a sick person you know that? You think that ewok dance/love fest at the end of Return of the Jedi was just for fun? No, it was their last rites. Do you ever wonder where all the ewoks are today? I did…every single day. Now i know. They are DEAD!
Planet Earth surf and skate wear has a new line of sustainable organic clothing. I like to think that my clothes were coming from the wandering sheep on the Irish countryside and a farmer was selling the wool straight to Planet Earth or maybe his wife just sowed my jeans and put some Midget Gems in the pocket before she shipped them to me.
I’m sure these aren’t made in the Irish countryside or contain pockets of midgets gems, but they are probably a little better than gap jeans.
The Evangelical Climate Initiative has released their call to action for Christians with an ecological conscience. I covered ECI before here.
The document has been signed by a pretty large group of well known Christian leaders including:
Rick Warren, Pastor of Saddleback Church
Jack Hayford, Pastor of Church On the Way
Richard Stearns, President of World Vision
Brian McClaren, Emergent Church
…and the presidents of pretty much every Christian university inculding Azusa Pacific, Southwest Baptist, Whitworth, John Brown, Northwestern, Wheaton, Simpson, Colorado Christian, Calvin and Gordon.
The call to action uses a simple form of deductive reasoning:
A. Global Warming is happening and it will affect poor people
B. Christians are supposed to care about people
Therefore, Christians must care about global warming.
It’s only good logic if A is absolutely true.
GM has a new concept car that doesn’t use gasoline to run. It is a PHEV. A plug-in hybrid. The car is powered by a lithium ion battery, which when it runs out can be recharged on the go by a 12 gallon gas tank. The car can do 40 miles on one charge, but using the gas it can do over 500 miles. The car will also run on ethanol.
While I would love to drive a car powered by battery only, I think in terms of consumer adoption, this car could be a huge step foward. GM is seemingly undoing what they did by killing the ev1.
I’m looking forward to seeing the technology make it’s way into the Saturn Vue Greenline.
The FDA has given to go ahead for cloned animals to be sold for food. They also are requiring no labels. You can bet the un-cloned animal meat will be labeled because they can only gain by advertising that fact.
But your McDonalds burger just got even worse.
There is a whole mix of problems with this. This isn’t just your snickers bar getting smaller or your favorite mexican restaurant discontinuing free chips and salsa. Environmental, health, and social concerns seem to outweigh any benefit to the consumer. Actually this is only good for the manufacturer (which in this case, is what farmers become). They can copy their best animals, to get more beef and more milk. It won’t cost us any less. It won’t make us any healthier. It won’t reduce waste or carbon emissions.
The beautiful part of this system is what you think does have some weight. After the FDA makes a ruling they do accept public comments before they change any standards. Go here to comment. Don’t be too lazy to care because it will be too late to complain later.
EDIT: The docket for this ruling is not up yet, but continue to check back, it should be up soon.
