Love At First Sight

There is a road from the eye to heart that does not go through the intellect.
-G. K. Chesterton

Monday night I watched on of the best romantic comedies I’ve seen in years. There was just something different about it, that made it stand out.

It wasn’t based in New York, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco or Alabama.  The main characters didn’t include a wedding planner, book store owner, ad executive or magazine writer. They weren’t unhappily engaged only to meet fall in love and get married in one week. They didn’t hate each other upon meeting, to later unwillingly and unwittingly fall in love.  There wasn’t a baseball game, wedding ring, crazy in-law, or even a sailboat. In fact, there wasn’t even really any talking.

There were simply two robots.  The least “human” of objects, expressing the most human trait, love. The story is told in tones of “voice” and in their eyes. Their eyes being the only human trait they carry.

The story isn’t a new one; A sweet, but lonely guy meets a beautiful girl.  He wins her over, not with brains or braun, but with charm and determination. While it may take EVE, the object of his admiration, most of the movie to fall for him, it only takes the viewer the first 5 minutes.

The visuals are absolutely beautiful and Pixar’s best yet.  The soundtrack is perfect. The film is the definition of heartwarming.

Wall-E is one of my favorite movies in years and definitely one of Pixar’s best.  If you haven’t seen it, go soon.

Vader Eighties

Please make it (or skip) to at least the 3 and half minute mark, as that’s where Darth Vader and the Stormtroopers (a great* band name) dance to Thriller.

I think Darth Vader performing a pelvic thrust is one of the funnier things I’ve ever seen.

I wonder why it is that Darth Vader is the subject of internet video fandom. No one actually likes Darth Vader. No child has ever cheered him on. You don’t want to BE him. Then again, as you grow older you begin to realize how annoying Luke Skywalker is.

Is it possible that it is simply the fact that he is in full costume? It goes with my theory of special mascot relativity, which states that the more fully costumed a character is, the funnier they are performing their (or someone’s elses) functions.

Keep in mind this isn’t some viral video joke, this is actual planned, paid-for Disney entertainment at Walt Disney World.

*and by great I mean, one that plays one show and at your friend’s b-day party and then goes back to their jobs in IT.

Alice by Pogo

I keep watching to this over and over. The music is a little mesmerizing. 90% of the sounds come from the movie Alice in Wonderland.

And 90% of Alice in Wonderland comes from a drug trip.
